5 Types Of Roof Shingles

Construction & Contractors Blog

One of the first things someone sees about your home is the roof. Furthermore, the roof protects you from the elements and keeps your family safe. Don't skimp on roofing materials. Instead, see what your budget can afford and pick the best material for your specific climate, price needs, and visual preferences.

1. Asphalt shingles

This is the classic shingle that you are probably already familiar with if you live in North America at the moment. For the most part, asphalt shingles are low cost. If you get coated asphalt shingles, they might even get you a nice rebate due to meeting certain energy standards. The slightly cheaper and thinner "three-tab" shingles could save you more money than architectural or laminated shingles. Though their cost can be lower, asphalt shingles tend to last somewhat shorter than other types.

2. Wood shingles

These are more pricey than asphalt typically. Wood shingles, however, are known to be more appealing visually because they are natural. If you go with a hardwood (like redwood or cedar), then you could enjoy a longer life span than other varieties of wood shingles. For some people, wood is the only way to go.

3. Metal roofs

If your home has a steeply angled roof, then metal roofing could be the best bet for you. The metal roofing can be constructed out of shingles or even in a solid metal sheet if desired. You can get your metal roof galvanized in an affordable manner, which lets it last longer. Many areas of America are starting to catch on to metal roofs, like the Northwest region. They help against wet conditions when they are galvanized.

4. Slate shingles

This is a material that is derived from rock quarries. The shingles are really durable and have a great lifespan. You can enjoy slates in synthetic form by getting a cheaper version that mimics real slate (though it comes with a shorter life span).

5. Tile shingles

These unique tiles are popular with the American southwest. They mimic original Spanish buildings, giving a romantic and interesting look instantly to any abode. They can be pricey, by they also come with a long lifespan and aesthetics to boot.

When making your decision on roof shingles, consider all of the options available to you. Hopefully, one of these great materials will fit your needs. Review the list and let your creativity go to work!

Before I knew it, I was struggling with construction decisions, and it was overwhelming. I wanted to do something to make things right, so I started focusing heavily on finding a team of professional contractors. I was able to find an incredible contractor who seemed to understand my aesthetic, and he helped me to transform my house into my dream home. Check out this blog for great information.
